Names we keep for things that are very different, now…
Television…originally defined as coming to your television via an antenna, that picked up invisible electronic waves, transmitted through the air. This is almost never the case now, here in the U.S. Broadband Cable and Internet systems mean programming is delivered to us now very differently…Yet we STILL call it “television” We also still ‘tape’ shows, even though tape is no longer common…We listen to ‘record albums’, even though THOSE are arguably obsolete.
Radio, like television, once depended exclusively on…Well…RADIO WAVES to broadcast signal to your house. My car still has a radio. Some offices do, as well. But we get more and more programming, these days (even traditional ‘terrestrial’ radio) via the internet. Pandora, Spotify, XM Satellite radio…PODCASTS…All have changed the very nature of the technology that gets audio programs to you. But we still call it radio. I am making radio programs…That you can get on ANY internet capable device…PC, laptop, smart phone, smart TV, Bluetooth car stereo…Take THAT, Mister Marconi!
Grand Garden, Friendship Farm, and Newsportrichey.org…
Like we sometimes do…We dove into the mailbag for today’s podcast, and answered questions about recent stories. Even though it’s NOT a mailbag, and the mailman didn’t deliver this mail. See? It’s happening in EVERY communications field!
You can reach the folks at the Grand Garden at the following link:
They provide information, resources, and even plant starts and seeds for a small fee…And often for free! It’s also more than one garden, there are a NUMBER of garden plots around downtown New Port Richey.
A shout out is required to our friend Jon Tietz, from NEWSPORTRICHEY.ORG, which has a nearly weekly agricultural report from Friendship Farms, which ALSO has assistance and plants for sale on a frequent basis. There is a great network of ecology minded gardeners at work in our community!
Computer Rescue by Dragon Technologies…
Thanks to James Alford at Dragon Technologies for rescuing files and repairing “Skookum1”, the main studio PC here at Spare Room Studio! He did an outstanding job, and I owe him many beers!
The PC has not been this clean, fast, or quiet since it was built, in 2009. Very happy to have to old Skook back where he belongs!
Thanks to Tapas, and for all the birthday wishes!
Finally, thanks for all the birthday wishes…Had a great time catching up with old friends on Friday night at Tapas Gastro Lounge, on Ridge Road. Hey…quick So Local Pasco trivia note: My first radio job (unpaid) was at WLPJ, which used to occupy the now abandoned shack next to Leaning Tower of Pizza, in New Port Richey. The first DJ I met, there was one Lisha Peer…And she is one of the funniest people I’ve ever known. I always promised that if I had another radio or broadcasting project, I would find a way to include her. The very first and last voice you hear, each podcast is hers…So THAT is why you hear that sultry, sexy voice on my podcast. She is also available for commercial voice over work!
Tuesday is Westside Deli Day, 10 to noon! Come on out and say hi…
