A great visit with the Polos
I am so lucky. Most of the time. Today, for instance. I’ve been playing ‘chat tag’ with both Gerry AND Andrew Polo for a few weeks…Trying to get out to see them, trying to get THEM in here, to see me. That part is lucky…But it’s not what I mean.
Listen…This Andrew Polo kid. Amazing. I mean…PRODIGY level amazing. Perfect pitch. Could read music probably before he could read sentences. IMMENSELY talented. Well spoken. Amazing.
Making new friends
Now, today was the first time I had met either Gerry OR Andrew, in person. Gerry is so mild, so quiet…And yet, he has been playing music in public for many years. So, it’s funny: In any father son combo, you kind of expect the dad to drive the conversation. But Gerry was very happy to let Andrew speak, and carry the message. It was nice to see (I actually had the same experience with Rick and John Currier from Past Due…Dad was very happy to let his grown son do the talking.
Saturday Music Cast is a GO!
All of THAT to say…You will want to tune in to the Saturday Music Cast, this weekend. Andrew and Gerry are a delight to converse with…And the music. Oh, my goodness, they are so good. They played Minor Swing, Besame Mucho, and Nature Boy (which I requested!) in the studio, today. Just lovely…And great conversation to go with it.
Today is about their new music business venture
Anything Music will be a music store, a musical instrument rental shop, and a school for locals. It will be a music venue, and hopefully a comedy venue, as well. Their stated goal is to keep lessons AND instruments affordable for ALL…Making sure that even lower income kids and families have a chance to experience the thrill of learning to play.
Music is GOOD for kids. Music instruction is GOOD for kids. Participating in music culture is good for ALL of us. If we are going to have a strong local music scene, it is going to require efforts such as the one Gerry and Andrew Polo are embarking on…And I cannot state accurately how hopeful and excited I am, for them.
Here are the details on Anything Music…Which they hope to have open in early July!
