Welcome Baboon Room, to Spare Room Studio!
Let me tell you how I learned about the Baboon Room podcast:
Back in the old days (early February), I was struggling every week to find guests for the short lived So Local Pasco TV show. One night, I happened upon a Facebook video:
Posted by Corey Cottrell Music on Saturday, November 27, 2010…
I had to talk to this guy. I got him to agree to meet me at The HandleBar in Hudson…Hoping to interview him and catch a couple of songs for the TV show. He was a no show. Bad start.
But here is how you know someone is the ‘real deal’…He took immediate responsibility for the failed meetup, and agreed to meet me at Gill Dawg a few days later. We shot a short interview, and two songs for the TV show. It was excellent. We hit it off right away.
Over the next couple of weeks, we developed a solid rapport, and he was, as he states, really impressed with the So Local Pasco podcast. It turns out Corey has been making a podcast for quite some time…Intermittently, and sometimes drunkenly, with some friends and like-minded folks. He is very good, actually, and I am proud to say I have recorded four one hour podcast segments with Corey for his show, Baboon Room, and two So Local Pasco podcasts, plus the TV appearance.
I was very excited when Corey broached the subject of some sort of studio support for The Baboon Room…I see great potential in his ‘cast, and was more than willing to share my expertise.
I started my So Local Podcast for two reasons: I wanted to address our negative self image, here in West Pasco County “That’s PASCO for ya!” seems to be a recurring refrain whenever something bad happens, here. I knew that every day West Pasco residents were hip deep in the work of making our community better, and I set out to show myself and others that this is happening, and there was much to do, and we should all STFU, and get to work making our community a better place. I also needed a model, to show other potential podcasters that it could be done, and if they wanted a show, I could help them accomplish that goal.
My partnership with Corey Cottrell is first proof that this model works, and is workable for others…So I am flattered and excited that he chose to ask me to help.
I won’t be making Corey’s podcast for him…His content is his content. I will probably guest with him, again. But the Baboon Room will continue to have his amazingly charming style, and substance. There are no profanity filters, no apparent ‘out of bounds’ topics…Corey welcomes all guests, conservative, liberal, elsewise. Nor is politics the only topic discussed…I have so far heard fascinating discussions of robotics (from his very young science correspondent), issues related to being transsexual in our culture, and several frankly drunken brawls related to plumbing, Jameson Whiskey, Canada, and beards.
It’s a fascinating brew…Never the same twice.
Frederick the 2nd once referred to the artillery (cannons and such), as “Lending dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl”.
I suppose Spare Room Studio is the local podcaster’s artillery.

Welcome aboard, Baboons! Thank you for trusting me with your creative work!
Don’t forget, our friend Julie Black is opening tonight, at the Chasco Fiesta, for Rick Derringer! Support your LOCAL musicians!
One last thing: Today’s podcast was a LIVE recording, start to finish, no edits. It may sound slightly different than previous podcasts…Just testing an idea.
