Yesterday (Wednesday, April 27th), a momentous event shift happened…Please remember that THIS Saturday, the 30th will be my onstage live interview with Papa Crawdaddy. That happens at the Seaside, and you can check out the info by clicking this nice green text.
But the event we are talking about TODAY is going to happen NEXT Saturday, May 7th…It occurs to me, as I put the podcast to bed, someone might show up THIS Saturday morning at 9, by mistake, to participate. Of course, there are WORSE things to happen than finding yourself at Gill Dawg on a Saturday morning, with a kayak. It is a GREAT jumping off point to explore some real Florida waterways.
I went to the New Port Richey Drum Circle and Community, tonight…It’s the 3rd time I’ve been out for this gathering. Great spot, fire going, lots of folks came out. It turned into a great night, for me…I got to sit down with Jaana (above) and Tammy…Known as the Mayor and the Princess, to talk about next Saturday’s Bayou Poker Paddle +Inflatables Event.
They dropped THIS nugget on me…We can get you a DISCOUNT. That’s right, So Local Pasco is so special that the ladies gave us our own coupon code. This is what you do:
Go to the Bayou Battle Website, and register. When you DO, enter coupon code “Pasco” for a $5 discount on your entry fee! You get a great day on the water, prizes, raffles, and a chance at some pretty good money for the right poker hand. Also, me. That’s RIGHT, kids, they are setting me loose in the bayou in (on?) a kayak. That is worth the price of admission…We’ll see if I can keep it out of the mangroves.
Hey, listen…We had a great time. I cannot say enough nice things about Jaana and Tammy…These two ladies: WINNING!
Before I close…I really want to find better words to convey to you all how special I think our coast is. It’s something I think about quite a bit. We just are NOT a beach town. We are a bayou, river, estuary and fishing flats town. Let me tell you if you don’t know: People plan for years to come fish for Tarpon, Snook, Redfish and Trout on our flats…Our inshore marine environment is in pretty doggone good shape.
So please, take a day…NEXT Saturday, for instance…And get on out and enjoy our coast. Care about it. Immerse yourself in it. Share it with your friends and neighbors.
Hi, folks…No podcast, just a blog post to tell you about an event that is blowing up:
At first, this was just going to be a thing where I showed up, interviewed the band outside between sets. Suddenly, it looks like a LOT of folks are coming out for the show…So we have modified the plan! The guys are gonna plug me in to the PA, and I will drag up a barstool and interview the band LIVE onstage! That’s right…Candid questions, a few laughs, and maybe a couple of songs while we talk.
The interview will air on my So Local Pasco Saturday Music Cast for Saturday, May 7th…And will include some music, along with the interview.
I’m really excited about this, it’s something I’ve never done, before. It is YOUR chance to come out and show support for Papa Crawdaddy, a SERIOUSLY cool local band, and for the Seaside Inn, a venue that has hosted a TON of live music, over the years.
I expect to be interviewing the band some time around ten pm, so make sure and get on out!
A bit of a step back, today, as we welcome some brand new listeners and subscribers, to So Local Pasco. I decided that every couple of months, I would post a podcast that is designed to help other people discover how vast and amazing podcasting IS…It’s a wide open field, and MILLIONS of podcasts are being made, these days. They range from incredibly boring dry reads designed (I suppose) to teach or to fill requirements for continuing education in the business realm, to AMAZING, art level works of broadcast design, writing and recording.
I get the sense from folks I meet that for many of them, So Local Pasco is the first podcast they’ve ever listened to…And for almost ALL, it is the first podcast they’ve ever BEEN on, as a guest. For me, this came as a shock (and I am sure people reading along who are already ON the podcast bandwagon are surprised, as well)…That this 16 year old liberating force in new media was alien to a LOT of people! So, I get to educate, a bit. I DO have to be careful not to jargon the HELL out of people!
I mentioned in the podcast that MY favorite podcast, bar NONE is RADIOLAB. Radiolab is a monthly podcast that contains a BIG story, every month…It is narrated by the two creators, along with other editors, and often the subjects of the story. It is a telescoping journey, every month…And it almost never goes to where you thought it would when you started listening!
Locally, you can catch a bunch of WUSF programs on podcast, including Health News Florida, with stories from West Pasco County’s own Daylina Miller.
Finally, screenshots of the heavy hitters: iTunes (top), and Google Music Podcasts (bottom). There are literally millions of podcasts to listen to…Some have hundreds of episodes of amazing content (Marc Maron has delivered over 700 interviews, with people ranging from Dave Attell to President Obama)…Please go and seek out podcasts! They have the capacity to enrich our lives, like any other tool for exploring and understanding the world, and the PEOPLE around us.
