This maybe incredibly naive of me…but if you know me, you know I have this weird mix of cynicism and childlike optimism, so I’m going to write it anyway. Here goes:
A couple of years ago, I wandered in to a memorial gathering for a dead classmate, Chris Cafaro. It was the second in two years, the prior was Craig Carmichael, who I had known since elementary school.
Anyway, at this gathering, I reconnected with a known good guy and former local rock musician named Barry Horvath. Barry and I went to Hudson High together, but we were not really close friends. That’s important later in this piece, so pay attention.
Barry was very welcoming, to me, and it turns out his kids know my young nephew. Barry and Cheryl kept inviting me to participate in things, but it was a very busy time for me.
Midway through last year, I began to reach out to people I thought might be interesting and even helpful in the So Local Pasco project. I wanted to focus on people doing good works in our community, and Barry’s name kept coming up. In December, when I started the daily podcasts, I contacted Barry to ask him to come on and talk about “How the Grinch Saved Christmas”. Now, I knew Barry was PART of that event, but because we were not really close friends, I had no idea how central he was to it.
Barry was quiet, competent, and very humble about it all…it is OTHER PEOPLE who have made me aware of his generous a tireless community support. It’s not the only community service he does…aside from his OWN business, Barry is a huge supporter of LOCAL businesses, and the people who work to make this a strong community.
So, for the first time (and if this goes badly, the last) I want use whatever influence I have to implore Pasco voters to support Barry in his run for Pasco County Commissioner. This is the part where my NOT being an old school pal of Barry comes into play…I am telling you that of the hundreds of people I’ve spoken to in the last year, no one has spoken a bad word to me about Barry. He is WIDELY regarded in this town as a stand up, honest, hard working member of our COMMUNITY.
I am pretty sure Barry has this without the So Local Pasco endorsement….there are TONS of people in this county that will tell you the same basic story I just did.
Barry for Pasco!
